Is Solana flipping Ethereum?

Ethereum has been the undisputed #2 coin for years, but Solana (SOL) has emerged as its most credible challenger. The picture is split: it depends entirely on which metric you look at.

By market capitalization, ETH is still far ahead — SOL would need to multiply several times over to flip it. By total value locked, Ethereum's DeFi ecosystem also remains much larger.

But on activity, Solana has already flipped Ethereum. It regularly generates more fees and more DEX trading volume than Ethereum's base layer — both above the 100% parity line on the charts above.

We deliberately don't chart raw transaction counts or active addresses here: Solana's transaction count is dominated by validator vote transactions, which makes a head-to-head comparison misleading. Fees and DEX volume are the fairer measure of real economic activity.

The original flippening is still Ethereum vs Bitcoin. There's also the USDC vs USDT race.
